Hydraulic power units are relatively common in the mining industry, mainly as lubrication systems of other major critical equipment. Therefore, a proper maintenance strategy with condition monitoring techniques addressing its possible failure modes is crucial.
A worn-out coupling and worn-out gear pump are 2 possible failure modes. Here, vibration analysis is the right tool.
This article explains what to look for to diagnose them properly.
