Bearing Wear on Leach Feed Pump

Bearing wear on Leach feed pump B was caused by false brinelling and water ingress due to excessive end float clearance. Installing an extra shim restored the clearance to OEM specifications.

Just sharing another case study of bearing wear due to false brinelling and water ingress. Our Leach feed pump B, which serves as a duty standby unit, had been idle for over a year. When restarted, vibration analysis showed severe bearing damage (stage 4, close to failure).
Upon inspection, we found a significant amount of water inside the barrel. Back flow was ruled out as piston rings were in excellent condition and there was no sign of water damage. It was clear that water had entered through end cover due to excessive end float clearance.
An extra shim was installed to restore end float clearance to OEM i.e 0.254-0.35mm.
