Increased vibration from worn and broken gear teeth in a leach tank gearbox led to inspection.
One of the leach tank gearboxes on site was found worn upon inspection due to increase in vibration from gear teeth. The sidebands of high-speed gear mesh frequency peak had gone up from 0.1mm/sec to 0.25mm/sec which led to the inspection. Both high-speed and low-speed gear teeth were found worn and some teeth were broken. Time waveform also showed impacts spaced at running speed of shaft and had increased in amplitude.
