During vibration analysis at a pipeline pump station, the outboard bearing showed elevated amplitudes with looseness characteristics:

- 1X and harmonics dominant in the spectrum
- Impacts evident in the time waveform

Vibration amplitudes exceeding warning levels at the outboard bearing (above 0.3 in/s RMS). Inspection confirmed excessive end play at the thrust bearing:

- As found: 0.009″
- As left: 0.004″

After correcting the clearance and realigning the motor-pump, the results were immediate:

- 50% reduction in velocity at the outboard bearing
- 68% reduction in acceleration

Harmonic components and impact signatures disappeared. This case highlights how vibration analysis can point directly to mechanical clearances and how something as specific as thrust bearing end play can drive significant vibration behavior in rotating equipment.
