A catastrophic bearing failure occurred in emery equipment used for steel mill product finishing, despite acceptable vibration values. The failure was attributed to excessive loads on the rollers due to poor operations, leading to deformation.
This is a very interesting case of an emery equipment that gives a finish to the products of a steel mill, the equipment presented acceptable vibration values both in speed (mm/s) and acceleration (g) however, in the time that elapses between monitoring (one month) a catastrophic failure in the bearings originated, it is then, where a bearing failure analysis can indicate the root cause, in this case an excess of loads on the rollers due to bad operations generated deformation in the rollers and cage. Today we continue to improve the proposals for condition monitoring, online monitoring equipment can help detect faults that originate in short periods of time.
