Cage failures are not common types of failures. Especially with metal cages, the failure trend progresses very quickly and can be detected at audible sound levels. However, in very noisy operating conditions (compressor building), such as the one encountered in the example below, measurement and analysis are essential to detect the fault. The cage failure graphics of the SKF brand N308 bearing and the photo of the damage encountered after the pump was taken into maintenance are shared below.
