Coupling Fault at a Ball Mill

Spectral change in ball mill equipment vibration monitoring indicated a predominance of the 3X frequency, suggesting coupling problems. NDT equipment revealed damage and cracks in the coupling.

Historical case:
In the programmed vibration monitoring route, spectral change related to ball mill equipment was detected, which had been monitored for damage to the pinion, being able to appreciate in spectra little by little the predominance of the frequency 3X over the rest of the components, (parametric frequency of the equipment historically), reaching harmonics of said frequency.

As is popularly known in the world of vibrations, 3X is almost always attributed to coupling problems (clarify that 3x is not always a cause of coupling damage, since different types of coupling and different speeds can make variations in the way coupling damage and misalignment are spectrally displayed). so it is recommended to remove coupling, which visually it is possible to detect wear and failure of different components that compromise its correct operation.

NDT equipment by means of penetrating inks reveals damage and cracks in coupling.
