Centrifugal Pump Corrosion and Premature Wear

A centrifugal pump’s deep groove ball bearing (6305 C3 Z) experienced exponential vibration increase, cavitation, and random noise. This was due to corrosion and premature wear caused by water penetration, necessitating housing adjustments and improved sealing.

This deep groove ball bearing 6305 C3 Z belongs to a centrifugal pump, in this case it is interesting to see how the vibration values in the envelope filter acceleration increased exponentially, from 4.2 gE in April to 37 gE in June, during this period the equipment was stopped, an important piece of data for the analysis, once put into operation it presented high values, the spectra showed cavitation and random noise with BPFI frequencies. When the change was made, it was observed that there were displacement marks of the outer runway, rolling and corrosion due to humidity in the rolling elements and the inner runway, it was also possible to see the beginning of spalling due to corrosion. It is evident that this equipment requires a proper adjustment in its housings and a better sealing, since water from the process has penetrated the bearing generating this corrosion and therefore premature wear.
