Coupling Shim Worn Out Problem
High vibrations (8.8 mm/s RMS) were detected in equipment, traced to worn coupling shims. Immediate inspection and alignment were recommended to prevent component failure.
During routine vibration measurements, I recorded high vibrations in the equipment (8.8 mm/s RMS). After analyzing the data, it was identified that the vibration was coming from the coupling, so it was reported that the coupling needed to be inspected and the equipment needed to be aligned. The equipment was stopped, and during an inspection of the coupling, it was found that the shims of the coupling had worn out. If the equipment had continued to operate in this condition, it would have led to the failure of other components as well. Here are some pictures related to the issue.
