Elevated vibration levels in an axial fan were attributed to fan shaft wear and excessive bearing clearance, highlighting the importance of proactive vibration analysis.
Axial Fan – High Vibration
During routine condition monitoring, we recorded elevated vibration levels of 16.5 mm/s RMS (horizontal) on an axial fan driven by an induction motor via belt. The FFT spectrum showed dominant 1X fan harmonics, consistent with mechanical looseness.
🛠️ Inspection Findings:
- Fan shaft wear
- Excessive bearing internal clearance
These mechanical defects contributed to instability and increased dynamic forces.
✅ This case reinforces the importance of proactive vibration analysis in detecting early-stage faults before functional failure occurs.
