Bearing Failure Detection in a Low-Speed Ball Mill Pinion Housing

ACOEM’s SFI filter was used to detect a bearing failure in a low-speed ball mill pinion housing. The filter significantly reduced noise interference, making fault signals clearer and enabling early intervention, which reduced downtime and ensured planned maintenance.

Bearing Failure Detection in a Low-Speed Ball Mill Pinion Housing: Clarity Provided by ACOEM SFI Filter 🔍

As industrial predictive maintenance professionals know all too well, vibration signals in low-speed equipment are full of noise and interference that make fault detection difficult. In this context, being able to perform reliable diagnostics even at low speeds provides a great advantage.
🎯 Case Study: Bearing Failure Detection with SFI Filter

We recently used Acoem 's SFI filter to detect a tube failure (BSF, 24156X) in a bearing coded 8.15 located in the pinion bearing of a Ball Mill. Below you can see two time signals that have not been filtered for SFI and have been applied. Thanks to the SFI filter, interference was reduced and fault signals and shock waves appeared in this critical component at low rpm.

Key Results:

Noise Reduction: The SFI filter has greatly reduced interference in signals, making fault signals appear much clearer.
Accurate Fault Detection: Bearing failure, which was difficult to detect with traditional methods, became evident by applying filters. This is especially critical in low-speed machines.
Early Intervention Opportunity: With the SFI filter, early detection of faults reduced downtime and planned maintenance was ensured.

📊 Data Comparison: Left: Unfiltered signal data
Right: SFI-filtered signal data

👉 The ACOEM SFI filter can be indispensable for maintenance teams, with its ability to distinguish fault signals even at low speeds. With this advanced technology, it is possible to increase operational efficiency while extending the life of our equipment!
