Greasing Effect on Bearing Fault Frequencies

BPFO and BPFI peaks were observed at the DE of Condensate extraction Pump 2A and 4A. After greasing, the peaks dropped significantly and a spectrum analysis indicated the number of balls on the bearing.

During the last routine data collection, BPFO & BPFI peaks were observed at the DE of Condensate extraction Pump 2A & 4A. On 2A peaks were up to 60 g's pk-pk while on 4A peaks were at 55 g's pk-pk (Waveform).
Customer was advised to grease motor bearing. Shortly after greasing, peaks dropped to 8 g's pk-pk and 15 g's pk-pk respectively (waveform). After greasing, looking at the spectrum for 4A, peaks at BPFI with 1X sideband became obvious along BPFO, when you add both peaks together, it gives an interger number of 9 (3.73x + 5.27x = 9), indicating the number of balls on the bearing are 9.
