Jaw Crusher Broken Spring

Rising vibration levels in a Jaw crusher were traced to a broken spring, causing unstable jaw movement. Condition monitoring detected the fault, preventing failure and improving equipment reliability.

Our Jaw crusher was showing rising vibration levels, trending upward in the envelope time waveform with peaks around crushing frequency (3.5hz). The vibration was inconsistent, pointing away from bearing and belt issues and suggesting faults such as draw back rod tension, spring issue or some other issue. A detailed inspection revealed a broken spring, which was causing unstable jaw movement and fluctuating vibration. This is a great reminder how Condition monitoring can detect a wide range of faults and prevent failure, and improve equipment reliability. After replacing spring and re tensioning the vibration levels have come down. Red peaks in the time waveform is the latest reading. Green peaks were the readings taken before changing spring. Overall readings have also come down.
