Bearing failure signals were observed in a 355 kW booster pump, leading to maintenance. Damage to the Throat bush in the casing caused the failure, highlighting the importance of early detection.

355 kW booster pump impeller side bearing failure signals were observed. Pump bearing g value started to increase, inner ring failure spectrum appeared and due to increased noise Pump was taken into maintenance. When pump was disassembled, cracks were seen in many places of Throat bush in casing. Bearing failure started due to Throat bush damage. Some examples from the report are in the pictures.

Working equipment always whispers. Hearing the whisper before it turns into a scream is positive for taking action before the failure grows and damages shaft and casing. Although bearing failure signals may seem like this pump can be followed more and then taken into maintenance, it showed that the action taken was correct because the sound of the equipment started to change.
