Advanced diagnostic tools detected high-risk Partial Discharge (PD) activity on a field isolator switch during a 11kV electrical network assessment. The PD activity, indicating Tracking and Arcing, was confirmed through visual inspection and data analysis.
During a recent Partial Discharge (PD) assessment, we leveraged advanced diagnostic tools to evaluate the health of a client’s 11kV electrical network, with a focus on preventing premature failures. On a field isolator switch connected to a critical mill motor, our team detected high-risk PD activity. Data analysis revealed Surface and Contact Discharge patterns, indicating Tracking and Arcing, often precursors to serious equipment degradation.
These findings prompted a deeper investigation. Upon visual inspection, we confirmed visible tracking marks and loose connections, key contributors to the elevated PD levels.
This is a great example of how predictive maintenance and condition-based diagnostics can catch hidden issues before they impact operations.
